All Zooey, all the time

Remember a while back when I said I could write a whole blog about Zooey? Well someone has created a whole tumblr of Zooey.

You know that question, "What celebrity would you be?" I think I would choose Zooey.

Red Beard Press

I visited a master printer this spring and she was showing us work she has collected over the years. My favorite piece she showed us was from an illustrator she called Red Beard. She purchased it from his senior show, and I would have done the same, it is amazing.

It is a two layer piece, the first layer is on waxed paper which makes the paper translucent. The second is on a piece of opaque paper. I fell in love, and it made want to stretch my illustration muscles.

I wish you guys could see this piece in person, but definitely go take a look at the rest of Red Beard Press.

Zooey + Cotton

I was watching TV last night when I heard a familiar voice, when I looked up at the screen I saw a familiar face. It was Zooey! She is singing and being beautiful in a new cotton commercial.

Love.

XO XO

I have always debated with people when you say XOXO which is hugs and which is kisses. I have come to believe that X is hugs because it relates to the crossing of arms with hugging, and O is lips because it relates to the shape of lips. Well my brother just sent me the Wikipedia article debating this very fact. It says:

"Hugs and kisses, also love and kisses, is a term for a sequence of the letters X and O, e.g. XOXO, typically to express affection or good friendship at the end of a written letter, email or SMS text message.
There is much debate on whether X's represent hugs or kisses. Some argue that X's represent kisses, but due to the "hugs and kisses" paradigm, some contend that 'X' is in fact lined up with the 'hug' and 'O' with the kiss. Also, arms crossing while hugging indicate an X while puckered lips form an O. Nevertheless, this proposition is contradicted by the Oxford English Dictionary, which states that 'X' is "used to represent a kiss, esp. in the subscription to a letter."[1]. The Shawks Inc. encyclopedia, an authority in urban lingo, has it that the 'O' represents a hug, and the 'X' a kiss, with the explanation that if you look at each letter like it was representing two people from a bird's eye view, the "O" represents the arms of those persons hugging each other while the "X" is evocative of two people kissing."

What do you guys think?

Phoenix

Oh who is that girl with the awkward Bangs in that photo with Phoenix? That would be me. Those guys are some of the coolest Parisians you will ever meet, and they are all incredibly sweet. ANDDDDD tonight they will be performing on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE with the one and only Seth Rogen as host. Sadly I do not get to go tonight, but I am so excited to watch them perform, they are going to be spectacular. When you see and hear them you will wonder why you haven't been listening to them all along. Unless you have been listening to them then you will be patting yourself on your back for your good taste.

Watch the youtube video below to take a listen to 1901, which you may have heard all over the radio and the internet.

Somersault

My dear friend Annie has recently start a new blog. She started March 17, and already has 32 posts, and each one is spectacular. Annie has great taste and a keen eye, and her blog is simply a treat. I recommend you go check it out now, you will not regret it.

ZOOEY

Why have I not posted this video before? My friend Annie told me about it ages ago and I fell in love. It is just perfect.

It is an ad campaign for Oliver Peoples starring Zooey Deschanel and Matt Costa. Mmmm. Oh and it is directed by Autumn de Wilde, does it get much better?

(Thanks to Paige for posting about it, and reminding me about the error in my ways.)

Also let's take a moment to admire Oliver Peoples logo:

500 Days of Summer

You guys have probably seen this all over the interweb already, but like Paige I couldn't resist posting it myself.

I love Zooey.

Iconic Glamour

To celebrate their 70th birthday, Glamour is taking a look back and celebrating some fabulous female american icons. They have recreated all of these gals with help from some modern celebs. I love them. Above is Alexis Bledel as Rosie the Riveter, and Emma Roberts as Audrey Hepburn. Clearly they took a cue from Joanna and Alex with the pink balloons!

You can view the rest of these lovely portraits on Glamour's website. (seen at Glamour via Miss Jane)

Paul Rudd

Earlier today I was watching Clueless and thought I should really write a post about Paul Rudd. My brother and I have often discussed that an actor that can still make you love him after hooking up with his step-sister is a genius. We were Paul Rudd fans before people even knew you could be a Paul Rudd fan.

Well I got distracted, and didn't write about Paul. Then tonight I went to dinner with my friend Jeff at the Burger Joint, and low and behold PAUL RUDD WAS THERE. I was too excited for words. It was quite possibly one of the greatest nights of my life. Oh Paul, how I love thee.

(I couldn't decide picture was better, so I chose to post both because you can never have to much Paul Rudd. First image from Portroids [a pretty cool concept] second image from google)

Funny People

Have you heard of Funny People? The new Adam Sandler/Judd Apatow project? If you have not I feel sorry for you. Watch the trailer and enjoy.

I have my ways, and have been privied to some lines of the script, and they are amazing. I was standing in a crowded elevator laughing to myself, but I didn't care because it was so funny.

At the end of the trailer when the guys are at the canyon, notice Jason Schwartzmans shirt. Yah, thats an Oregon Track Club shirt, what what Eugene!

Epic TV Shows

Over the last couple of weeks I have watched a couple of series and was reminded how amazing they are. First I watched "My So-Called Life", and realized how great that show is. I watched the entire series (granted only 1 season) in a couple of days, and with the exception of the Christmas episode which is the most bizarre episode of any series I have ever seen, I am in love.

Then I needed some more brilliant TV, so I whipped out my Freaks and Geeks DVDs and watched the entire series (again only one season).

I loooove both of these shows, and wish there was more for me to watch.

The photo shoot in the new vanity fair is absolutely amazing. The photo above is one of my favorites, but Seth Rogen as frieda is pretty amazing too, okay they all are. Head over to the Vanity Fair website to check out their slideshow of the images.

JFK

I am quite a pop culture fiend, and my family and I are full of random facts. I never realized how random my facts were until a couple of summers ago.

My friends and I were at Lake Tahoe, and my friend Julianne read the final two Harry Potter books and Vanity Fair in about three days, so we were talking about her incredibly reading speed. The conversation lulled for a minute and then I sat up and asked, "Wasn't JFK a speed reader?"

My friends looked at my as if I just started speaking in tongues, apparently the fact that JFK was a speed reader is not common knowledge.

To enlighten you, JFK could read approximately 2500 words per minute (wpm in the speed reading world) which is 10 times the average. He would read 6 newspapers every morning at breakfast cover to cover.

Some more fun facts about JFK:
  • He had his suit jackets made with extra long pockets. This is because he liked to smoke cigars but didn't want to be photographed smoking. So when photographers were around, he would put his cigar in his pocket. Resulting in him having the lining of his pocket redone all the time.
  • JFK was also a speed talker.  He was the fastest random speaker in the world with upwards of 350 words per minute.

Benny and Joon

Friday night I tried to go see He's Just Not That Into You, but since I forgot I live in New York and you have to buy tickets for Friday night waaaay in advance, so instead my brother, our friend Annie, and I rented Benny and Joon, and it was incredibly delightful.

Steve Martin

A while back I read Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life by Steve Martin. I really enjoyed it, and included in the book is an image of Steve Martin's first business card. I think it is great. I have been trying to come up with a clever idea for my business card, something to make it memorable, and I definitely think this one is memorable.

Sorry for the poor image quality!

Abominable Snowman

I love all incarnations of the abominable snowman. Though when I was little and we would go on the Skyway at Disneyland and you would go through the Matterhorn I would have close my eyes and cover my ears because I was so scared of him. But though he still causes me to scream on the Matterhorn, I love him. And I love this stuffed version from Romp.
