I was writing a paper last night and had my iTunes on shuffle and the first song to come on was the Such Great Heights cover by Iron and Wine. I don't think I will ever get tired of this song. I think every cover I heard I have liked, but Iron and Wine might be my favorite.
Garden State can be kind of tiresome now, but when it came out that movie and soundtrack were pretty amazing.
Oh who is that girl with the awkward Bangs in that photo with Phoenix? That would be me. Those guys are some of the coolest Parisians you will ever meet, and they are all incredibly sweet. ANDDDDD tonight they will be performing on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE with the one and only Seth Rogen as host. Sadly I do not get to go tonight, but I am so excited to watch them perform, they are going to be spectacular. When you see and hear them you will wonder why you haven't been listening to them all along. Unless you have been listening to them then you will be patting yourself on your back for your good taste.
Watch the youtube video below to take a listen to 1901, which you may have heard all over the radio and the internet.
But last night I got a hankering for The Temptations. They are just so splendid, I listened to them all night long.
My parents did a very good job educating me music wise growing up. We listened to everything, music that was current, music my parents listened to growing up, music their parents had listened to, everything. I thought knowing all of this music was normal, the other kids weren't listening to The Beach Boys? They didn't know who Linda Ronstadt was? That came as surprise to me later on, kind of like I thought everyone knew JFK was a speed reader.
I work at a record label and so when I have down time at work I like to surf blogs (okay well I do that always) but at work I like to surf blogs to look for cool new musicians, music videos, and album covers. Well Monday at work I was on Black Eiffel and saw this amazing video for the band Blitzen Trapper. (Teen girl style)UH-MAZING. And they are from good ol' Oregon. So I decided be impulsive and buy their Album (for some reason I procrastinate on buying music when I find someone new that I like). Very delightful, I have been listening to it on my commute every day since.
I love me some Jason Schwartzman. And I love me some Coconut Records (which pretty much just consists of Mr. Schwartzman) So I am pretty excited about the album Davy.
I love Clueless. I am always amazed when people from my generation have never seen it. It like totally defines the 90's.
I had the VHS version of Clueless and at the end was this music video by Supergrass. You may recognize the song from the movie. It is grand, and I have come to realize so is Supergrass.
So a while back a saw Ben Folds, he was amazing, and he played The Bitch Went Nuts. He explained to the audience that this song is not meant be sexist. It is about the guy who says "The Bitch went nuts" as a reason he and his girl broke up. Whereas the girl has a really sensitive and emotional explanation she gives her girlfriends. I love it, because it is true, and being that girl who hangs out with the guys I have heard this plenty. And to be honest sometimes its true.
BTW, Al, I totally thought of you when he was talking about this song.
The Bitch Went Nuts Original Artist: Ben Folds
The bitch went nuts She stabbed my basketball And the speakers to my stereo She called me cunt But nothing prepared me for What I found when I came home
Oh and I Make my own bed I lie in it You lie in yours (you lie, you lie in yours) But they want more They're at my door With torches Please leave me alone You know just shut it just shut it just shut it
The bitch went nuts She photoshopped my face (shopped his face) On to every boy who'd done her wrong Then she burned them telepathically Onto the brains of all her embittered drones
Oh now Now they want more They're at my door With torches, scores and scores and scores To settle with themselves Who would have thought I'd scorned them all They've got a doll of me They're burning, they're burning, they're burnin Their own memories
Why do they all know? (Go!)
The bitch went nuts y'all But everyone said she might Oh, holy fuckin' shit Seriously now Now they want more they're at my door with torches, scores and scores You would have thought I'd scorned them all They've got a doll of me They're burnin'
This week has been very busy with school work and internship work. And what have I been listening to why I am doing all this work? The Virgins, well actually The Virgins radio on Pandora. If you haven't heard The Virgins yet, I recommend that you remedy that.
I am sorry I have been so MIA. My family has been in town, and I have been rather busy. Here is my apology via Rooney. (And I just realized this is my second post about Rooney on this blog) I am going to make it up to all this week by posting daily (if possible).
I love Rilo Kiley, and I just remembered how much I love the song "Ripchord". It just has that...quality. You know what I am talking about? If you do leave me a comment so I know what I am talking about.
Thanks.
Oh and can we just talk for a minute about how the adorable Blake Sennett is Joey the Rat from Boy Meets World? You know that little scrawnie bully who spent all his time with the big guy Frankie? Yep its him.
Has any one else realized this? I was watching "The Princess Diaries", because I am apparently a tween. And there was a scene where Michael Moscovitz is playing with his band, and I thought wow that sounds like a Rooney song. Then I thought hey he looks like Jason Schwartzman. MAYBE HE IS JASON SCHWARTZMAN BROTHER WHICH MEANS THAT THAT IS PROBABLY ROONEY! Well I investigated and I was right. Anyways, I just thought I would share that revelation with you.
Blueside is the snippit of a song you can hear in the movie.
